Joppa is an excellent place for reflection, given its history as a port spanning over 7000 years. It has seen cedars from Lebanon, destined for the temples, passing through its docks, and it was from here that Jonah set sail for Tarshish. Peter performed the miraculous revival of Tabitha in this city and had a vision at the house of Simon the Tanner, where Cornelius sought him out, heralding the opening of the door for gentiles to hear the good news.
The weather is a sunny 75° with steady breezes, a beautiful beach and historical sites. The house claiming to be Simon the Tanner's is not authentic, but the reality of significant events happening here is undeniable.
Reflecting on the last day of our trip, we managed to experience a great deal in a short time. From hiking in the areas where Jesus grew up, preached and healed, to the sights and stories of 5000 years of history in Jerusalem. It was a lot, but we still found moments to celebrate Purim and observe the Sabbath.
Jose and I set out with goals to draw closer to God, to one another, and to the land where the Bible originated, with the intention of sharing our experiences with as many people as possible. In many ways, our journey has been an incredible success, marked by minimal hassles.
Above all, I am filled with gratitude—for God, for my family, for the Bible, and for the church. Stepping away from my daily routine has provided me with the opportunity to refocus on life's true priorities. I am thankful for the simple blessings that make up each day, and I am reminded of God's generosity and His desire for us to love His creation and the people in it.
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10 NIV
Reflection: What can you do to keep the busyness of life from diverting your attention from what truly matters?
